Restaurante O Afiador is a straightforward spot for those looking to settle into traditional Galician food in Santiago de Compostela without fuss. Located on Rua do Valino, it draws a crowd that values authentic regional dishes served in a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. The dining room is cozy but spacious enough to avoid feeling cramped, making it suitable for casual meals with friends or family.

The menu leans heavily on local flavors: seafood rice, grilled octopus, and dishes like cocido and costilla asada highlight the heartiness of Galician cuisine. Many dishes can be adjusted to gluten-free and vegan diets, which is a thoughtful touch not always found in more traditional places here. This flexibility broadens its appeal to diverse diets while maintaining a local culinary identity.

Service is notably warm and accommodating, with staff who seem familiar with the regulars and welcome newcomers with ease. Communication is smoother when diners use some Spanish or translation apps, as the team embraces the local language and culture, creating an atmosphere where the food and its origins take center stage more than tourist expectations.

This restaurant fits well for midday or evening meals, especially for those who prefer to dine where the prices reflect the neighborhood rather than the tourist hubs nearby. It’s a good pick for visitors and locals looking for filling, traditional plates with a few standout items like gluten-free churros with a hot chocolate twist, plus shellfish and meat grilled to order.

Expect a straightforward dining experience focused on quality, local ingredients, and dishes that satisfy the appetite without fuss. The atmosphere is congenial but not formal—comfortably bustling on weeknights and a bit quieter midweek afternoons. It's a spot where food comes first, paired with a genuinely local vibe and attentive service.

Wonderful traditional Galician tasty food at great prices and cozy atmosphere with quite a lot of tables available. Everything in the menu can be gluten free and vegan. They have GF hot chocolate with churros ( I'd say, the only place in Compostela that has them). They also have really tasty 'chipiróns rebozados con patacas' which is a tasty meal with fried battered squid with chips! Traditionally you squeeze a half lemon on top which adds a special tangy taste. This is very difficult to find GF, so we were delighted. It was for us a great discovery! The bus C11 leaves you outside the door and from there you can see Cancelas shopping Centre very close, a few meters away.

Great food, read all the bad reviews before coming to this place, people really need to use Google translate to communicate with the locals or translate the menus, the bad reviews are mainly due to mis-communication and wrongful assumptions, food here is really great and prices are locally reasonable, seafood rice only €16, it would cost around €60 at the Cathedral. I am sure you would never find a "quiet" football bar on this entire earth. We chosen to sit outside.

We've eat two times in two days in o Afiador last week and it was a good time. Meat quality were pretty good and the service (especially Dulce) was on top. Thanks to her and colleagues for these moments.
